NorCal Nectar - Premium Raw Honey
Module 1, Lesson 1

Welcome to Beekeeping

5 min

Welcome to The Complete Beekeeper course. I'm Aleksandr, and my family has been keeping bees in Northern California since 1892. That's over 130 years of accumulated wisdom that I'm going to share with you in this course.

Why Beekeeping?

Beekeeping is one of the most rewarding hobbies you can take up. Whether you're interested in harvesting your own honey, helping pollinate your garden, or simply fascinated by these incredible creatures, you're in for an amazing journey.

Here's what beekeeping has taught our family:

  • Patience and observation - Bees operate on their own schedule, and the best beekeepers learn to read their hives
  • Connection to nature - You become acutely aware of seasonal changes, blooms, and weather patterns
  • Self-sufficiency - There's something deeply satisfying about harvesting your own honey
  • Community - Beekeepers are some of the most generous, helpful people you'll meet

What You'll Learn

This course is designed to take you from complete beginner to confident beekeeper. We'll cover:

  1. Getting Started - Equipment, hive selection, and placement
  2. Your First Hive - Installing bees and your first inspections
  3. Hive Health - Keeping your bees healthy and productive
  4. Queen Management - The heart of your colony
  5. Swarm Capture - Free bees and helping your community
  6. Scaling Up - Going from hobbyist to serious operation
  7. Harvest - Extracting and processing your honey
  8. Seasonal Calendar - What to do and when

How to Use This Course

Each module builds on the previous one, so I recommend going through them in order, especially if you're new to beekeeping. However, if you're already keeping bees and want to jump to a specific topic, feel free to do so.

The Discord community is available for questions. I check in regularly, and there's a great group of fellow beekeepers who are always willing to help.

Let's get started!
