How to eat raw honeycomb
Honeycomb is one of those ingredients that looks intimidating but is incredibly versatile once you know a few basics.
Straight from the slab
Cut a square, place it on a cheese board, or lay it over warm bread. Bite in — the wax releases liquid honey and then softens to a chewable texture. Most people swallow the wax; others chew and discard it. Both are safe.
Pairing ideas
Layer over ricotta toast, float a square in a cocktail, or serve alongside a sharp aged cheddar. Honeycomb also works drizzled over Greek yogurt — the wax cells hold the honey in place rather than pooling to the bottom.
Health notes
Raw comb honey retains propolis, beeswax, pollen, and active enzymes that are destroyed by heat during extraction. If you are buying honeycomb specifically for its nutritional properties, comb is the most direct way to get them.

Storage at home

Can you eat the wax in raw honeycomb?
Yes — beeswax is completely food-safe. The wax is made by the bees themselves and carries no additives. Most people chew the cells and either swallow the softened wax or spit it out. Both are perfectly fine.
How should I store raw honeycomb?
Room temperature in a sealed container, away from sunlight. Skip the fridge — cold causes rapid crystallization inside the cells and can make the wax brittle. Properly stored honeycomb keeps for 12–18 months.
How does honeycomb ship in summer?
May through September we include an insulated liner and cold pack. We ship Monday through Wednesday to prevent packages sitting in hot warehouses over weekends. If your local forecast tops 95°F we may hold one cycle and email you.
